Anti Ligature LCD Enclosures - Protecting Prisoners in Our Care
With the large demand to care for our prison society, many governmental reviews have uncovered that any prison could be cared for and their accommodate should protect them from themselves as well as others. Having said that, with refurbishment of prisons and correction facilities, they are now being given LCD televisions for their recreational time as well as in their sleeping accommodation, these are controlled so that they are switched off at a set time.

Workplace Safety is Your Responsibility Not the Government's
Just because the government has come up with 47-stories high worth of OSHA Laws to protect employees in the workplace does not mean you can turn a blind eye to common sense. Oh, sure you'll always have someone to blame if you get hurt, such as the guy who left a little hydraulic oil in the shop, or did not secure a fixture, or piled up some oily rags filled with chemicals in the corner.

Union Employee Sabotage of the New Guy - Pranks That Cause Injury Or Kill
Many folks will tell you that you live better if you work union, but now many of those union workers are out of a job after demanding higher pay and more benefits for years on end making the manufacturing company unprofitable, uncompetitive, and unable to maintain agility or proper price points in the market place. Some say it's their own fault and perhaps GM is the currently most used example of union employee demands gone wrong.

Uses and Primary Objectives of Safety and Health Audits in Perspective
Uses and Primary Objectives of Safety and Health Audits in Perspective The terms health and safety auditing and safety inspection are frequently misunderstood misinterpreted and distorted. The safety audit is not to be confused with an extend inspection of a workplace where safety issues are the focus of the inspection. The term audit refers to a systematic, objective and documented process during which information is collected and evaluated in order to verify a safety management system's performance.

Workplace Safety at California Car Washes, Industry Under Fire
There seems to be some long standing issues in the car wash industry that are coming to a head. For years car washes have hired illegal alien labor and many have treated their employees not so good (I am being polite). Now many of the car wash employees in Southern California and Central Valley California are working to form unions; called The Car Wash Worker's Organizing Committee, which just happens to be part of the Steel Worker's Union.

What Are My Responsibilities to Avoid Accidents at Work?
No one likes to be the victim of an accident. If you are an accident victim, though, one of the things that you want is compensation. You don't want to be injured and then get nothing for the trouble that you went through and the pain and suffering that you had to endure. Unfortunately, there are a lot of other issues that come into play, and one of them is whether you were careless enough to cause your own 'accident' or the accident that someone else was involved in.

Workplace Safety Taken to Extreme
Union employees often call for more workplace safety, and the politicians in their hip-pocket often oblige with exactly that; more onerous regulations for employers and higher fines when those worker safety laws are missed or violated. Still, on top of all this over regulation on the working place, we find workmen's compensation rates have doubled and tripled and are going up again, even though work-related accidents are down for the most part, at least in a good many industries.

Tips For Toolbox Safety Talks
Anyone that has been in the construction or utility business for any length of time knows that Training and Safety go hand in hand, and one should not exist without the other. The problem that I have found while searching for appropriate topics for weekly safety talks is finding industry specific topics. There are many places to find safety topics on the internet, but searching through to find safety topics that are relevant to underground utility work is time consuming.

Why It's Important For New Employees to Have First Day Safety Training
You want your workplace to be a safe, pleasant, appealing place to work - whether your work environment is always consistent, as with employees who work in an office building, or frequently changing, such as employees who work on construction sites or at various locations. And with the high cost of business liability insurance, worker's compensation insurance, and employee turnover, it makes good business sense - in addition to plain old common sense - to be sure your new employees get safety training on their very first day at work. Taking a proactive approach is the smart way to go!

OSHA in the Workplace
The health and safety of employees is the responsibility of employers, from implementing and enforcing to restructuring and reinforcing. Laws regarding health and safety are passed all the time, and have significantly increased safety levels in the workplace in recent decades. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are required to ensure their place of work is hazard-free and complies with all health and safety standards in relation to their business. OSHA was created by Congress as a way of enforcing these standards and for provision of information on health and safety, assistance to and training for both employers and employees.

Armco Barriers
In my other article I wrote about and how barriers can help protect your building and employees in this article I am going to write a bit about other Armco Barriers that are available. Warehouse Barriers are very common now, by were not really introduced until a massive warehouse accident took place with massive compensation payouts. If they are strategically positioned in places where forklifts are used they can prevent a lot of accidents where workers are caught by the trucks...

Stress Management at Work
Despite the fact that much more importance is now placed on the health and well being of staff in the workplace it is only comparatively recently that many businesses have begun to look at mental health issues amongst their workforce. A survey by the Confederation of British Industry reported that over 90% of its correspondents believed that the mental health of employees should be a concern of their company. Unfortunately, less than 10% of businesses actually have a mental health policy in place.

The Use of Dispersing Agents on Oil Spills
The management of oil spills may require the use of a variety of controls, including booms, skimmers, and dispersing agents. The key to effectively combating an oil spill and preventing damage to the shoreline and the environment is the careful selection and use of the appropriate equipment. The conditions of the spill site, as well as the type of oil, are important. The conditions at sea, the water currents, and the wind also can have a profound effect upon spill control efforts.

Hazwoper Training - Hands Off Training For a Hands on Job?
It's come to debate that the use of online training courses for the HAZWOPER certification can prove to be detrimental to the training that is actually received since there is no hands-on PPE training included with online courses. However, in the vast majority of traditional classes and seminars, the exact model of PPE training might not even be offered to employees. The OSHA standard states that PPE training needs to be done in the exact model that it would be in the workplace.

Workplace Safety, Risks and Random Drug Testing
Workplace safety is a huge issue and one bad accident can cost someone their life, cause catastrophic injury and/or cost the company or corporation millions of dollars. It is for this reason that many employers have instituted mandatory and random drug testing, as a deterrent to workers using illegal drugs that could affect their judgment or attention to detail when operating equipment or doing dangerous tasks. The unions and the ACLU wish to stop the mandatory drug testing calling it degrading, insulting, and unfair.

Legal Implications of Occupational Health and Safety Legislation For Workplace Managers
Workplace safety and health laws establish regulations designed to eliminate personal injuries and illnesses from occurring in the workplace. Generally laws consist primarily of Acts and subordinate legislation such as regulations. In addition to this a number of other legislative instruments are available to the legislator to provide appropriate statutory instruments. Safety and the law are being dealt with in a number of excellent available publications. It is not the purpose of this article to address the complexities of the law, however, persons in a supervisory position should ensure that they are at least aware of the specific statutory requirements placed upon the position held. It is the responsibility of each individual to establish the specific statutory duties placed upon the incumbent of any specific supervisory position. In this article it is the aim to at least explain some of the more important legal terms in a language that a person who received very little legal training, can understand and interpret to prevent legal liabilities being incurred without even knowing about it.

Methods of Oil Spill Response
The EPA has established several programs to prevent oil spills which have reduced this number to less than 1% of the total volume handled each year. The Oil Spill Program is administered through 10 EPA regions and EPA Headquarters. Part of the program is designed to prepare for and respond to any oil spill affecting the inland waters of the US. The EPA's history of responding to oil spills, including several major incidents and the lessons learned, has helped improve the prevention and response capabilities of the US.

Walking the Safety Talk
This past weekend I took a spin around a city trail on my bike. I was astonished at the number of parents cycling with their kids... yet only the kids were wearing helmets. Everyone knows wearing a bike helmet is a smart thing to do. Yes, it does mess up your hair, but it can also prevent serious, life debilitating brain injuries. I wonder what those parents will do when the time comes and their kids say "well, if you don't wear a helmet, why should I?"

How Safety Products Provide Medi Care?
People talk about occupational safety and mention big names to prevent apparent damages. But nobody takes into consideration the internal body damages or strains which can reduce the productivity of workers which ultimately lead to the low profits of the company. Several workplace hazards and dangers are the reason for these problems faced by the workers and it is the responsibility of the employer to keep all the medication and safety products at the workplace in advance so that any unexpected and unforeseen situation can be handled immediately.

Ways to Reduce Accidents Rates in the Workplace
While many people worry everyday about traffic accidents and unforeseen events happening in the house, most people don't know that most of the accidents actually happen in the workplace. While this may be fairly obvious in jobs where heavy machinery is being used, this is also true for office jobs where improper practices can lead to accidents. Since employers may suffer from heavy expenditures by having an employee injured on the job due to compensation and reduced productivity, it is important to try to reduce accidents as much as possible.

Evacuation Chairs
The recent Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that consideration must be given to the safe evacuation of everyone who may be on your premises, whether they are employees, guests or members of the public, to ensure they can escape any building unharmed if there is a fire or emergency, paying particular attention to people who may be especially at risk such as those who may be injured, confined to a wheelchair or unable to negotiate stairs quickly. Evacuation chairs are made with the emergency escape of such people in mind.
